John Kreis began his junior tennis career in Knoxville before moving to Arizona during his high school years. He came back to Knoxville to play for the University of Tennessee in 1978 and 1979 on teams that finished 2nd in the SEC both years. After graduating from UT, John played on the professional satellite circuit in the United States and Mexico.
John has dedicated his entire professional career to tennis. For the past 40 years he has been a player, coach, teacher, and mentor to tennis communities in his native Tennessee and other states. He came back to UT to work as an assistant to Mike De Palmer and then spent 13 years as a head coach in the SEC at Mississippi State, Alabama, and Tennessee.
After John moved on from coaching, he served as Tennis Director for The Cloister in Sea Island, the Olde Providence Racquet Club in Charlotte, and the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He is now back in Tennessee, and as well as being the Tennis Director at the Adams Tennis Complex is also a volunteer assistant coach for the men's tennis team at MTSU.
